FAQs - Curriculum |
1. Has extensive consideration been given to the impact on the children’s handwriting, spelling, grammar, imagination, concentration, fine motor skills?
Yes. We see the use of technology as a 21st Century tool, a pencil case if you like, that we access when required. Some days we may use it more than others and some days, perhaps not at all.
2. Will they be used for literacy? numeracy? writing? .... and to what extent?
Yes. This does not necessarily mean that we only use technology in these areas. Teachers look for the best resources to get the best outcome – technology is one of these resources.
3. Exactly how will the devices be used, and to what extent? What in the current curriculum will be replaced?
The devices will be used as a tool to personalise learning, enhance creativity and appeal to an audience (You!). As to what extent? this will be nurtured through the year to continue to get the best outcomes for our students. It is not replacing current curriculum, but a tool that is used to support learning.
4. Will my child still write - handwrite?
Yes. This is a necessary life skill.
5. iPads don’t have keyboards and typing on the screen is a concern.
Yes this is a concern for typing of documents. We are investigating how to best solve this. Bluetooth or clip on keyboards are an option and we will update this when we know more.
6. Is this an evidence based practice we are embarking on?
There are evidence based practices available. But the current state of technology development is so rapid that any evidence based practises are often outdated before they are published.
However there is plenty of evidence based practice to support personalised learning, cultivating creativity and the importance of a real audience to establish purpose in learning. We believe that this digital tool will enhance these practices in 2015.
